The Anti-Human Trafficking Program

The Anti-Human Trafficking Project is dedicated to educating, empowering, inspiring, and protecting vulnerable Rohingya individuals, particularly those at high risk, such as children, youth, and women in Rakhine State, and in Bangladesh Rohingya Refugee Camps. PPM employs a comprehensive approach to carry out this project, incorporating online and in-person training, social media campaigns, community awareness initiatives, research, and advocacy efforts. These activities aim to increase awareness and strengthen the community’s capacity to prevent trafficking.

The project includes impactful activities such as producing and publishing videos in the Rohingya language, conducting awareness training sessions (both online and in person), Training of Trainers (TOT) programs for local facilitators, Article writing and quiz competitions on anti-trafficking topics, research, documentation, and advocacy, amplifying the voices of Rohingya trafficking survivors.

To date, over 3,900 Rohingya participants (2,362 men and 1,538 women) have directly benefited, gaining critical knowledge and skills to mitigate trafficking risks within their communities.

Production of Human trafficking awareness Video Series

PPM produced 16 video episodes in the Rohingya language covering topics such as safe migration, trafficking prevention, and Myanmar's anti-trafficking laws. These videos, published on Facebook, effectively raised awareness within the Rohingya community. See detail here: Migration Diary

Human Trafficking Awareness Training (Online)

PPM offers interactive four-half-day online training sessions focusing on safe migration, trafficking prevention, victim identification, and trafficking laws. These sessions encourage critical thinking, peer-to-peer learning, and active participation. Participants include youth, community and religious leaders, women, parents, and local educators, guided by PPM trainers and expert practitioners.

Additionally, PPM also conducted a series of TOT Training for Community-Level Human Trafficking trainers under our recent project. TOT sessions equip community facilitators with knowledge and skills to conduct anti-trafficking initiatives in their communities. Participants practice facilitation through community-level pilot projects, fostering local ownership and sustainability.

Anti- Human trafficking awareness sessions in the Community level

PPM conducted over 200 in-person awareness sessions in Rakhine State and Bangladesh's Rohingya refugee camps. Each session, engaging 23 participants, targeted diverse groups, including students, parents, youth, women, and local leaders to enhance community-wide understanding and prevention efforts.

Article Writing Competition to Raise Awareness against Human Trafficking

PPM organizes an article writing competition to promote awareness of human trafficking prevention. Open to all, the competition encourages participants to write in Burmese, ensuring accessibility for local communities. The most impactful articles are selected and published on PPM’s Facebook page, accompanied by cartoon illustrations to enhance engagement and digital reach. Through this article writing competition, PPM seeks to harness the power of storytelling to raise awareness and inspire collective action against human trafficking within communities.

Anti-Human Trafficking Quiz Competition

PPM organizes online quiz competitions to enhance awareness about human trafficking in an engaging and interactive format. Hosted on Facebook, the quizzes cover topics such as safe migration, TIP laws, and trafficking prevention. PPM awards a 5,000 MMK prize to at least 10 winners, encouraging widespread participation and knowledge reinforcement within the community.

Human Trafficking Case Documentation

Since 2021, PPM has been documenting Rohingya human trafficking cases to raise awareness and provide evidence-based insights. Annually, PPM compiles a comprehensive case study booklet that consolidates these cases to deepen understanding of the trafficking phenomenon. This resource is widely distributed to stakeholders to inspire action, support justice efforts, and empower communities. By conducting advocacy, sharing the case study booklet and related articles through social media, PPM amplifies awareness and fosters discussions on combating human trafficking effectively.
