About Us

PPM was founded in 2016 by Htet Swe, a human rights activist, in cooperation with a group of young people actively working with a mission to promote democratic values, human rights, civic engagement, and peace through civic education, inter-faith dialogue, human rights training, campaign initiatives, research, and advocacy.

We are well known for providing a platform and safe space for youth and bringing diverse groups together to promote tolerance, peace, trust, and mutual understanding among Myanmar’s different ethnicities. PPM is known for promoting the voices and rights of marginalized communities, in particular for the Rohingya community.

The PPM offers different kinds of empowerment training and opportunities for young people to develop their skills and to bring changes to society. The PPM program has had a positive impact on a larger number of people, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and Christians including Rohingya, Rakhine, and other ethnic minority groups from the Rakhine state. Through our work, we aim to create progressive, democratically-minded citizens who will contribute to Myanmar’s successful transition to a sustainable democratic future.

The PPM is made up of scholars, community leaders, and peace activists from Myanmar and around the world who work together to achieve our vision. PPM has a defined structure that includes a Board of Directors and a senior management team. The Board of Directors is comprised of key local community leaders, scholars, and peace activists and is the highest decision-making organ for approving strategies, policies and reviewing achievements and plans. The senior management team is the planning and activity implementing body of the organization which controls and approves all activities in line with the organizational strategy as validated by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is the head of the senior management team.

The PPM operates programs mainly in northern and central Rakhine State, and Yangon, while PPM’s programs also actively bring diverse young people across the country. PPM’ Rakhine State programs aim at building upon a foundation of constructive engagement among conflict-affected key stakeholders and communities in Rakhine state. PPM's Yangon programs engage diverse youth with the aim of youth empowerment and producing emerging leaders across Myanmar. PPM’s activities engage diverse young people, activists, community leaders, and religious leaders from Rakhine state and Yangon.
